I guess I had never given much thought to the anatomy of a pool cue before.
Anyway I just wanted to say thanks for today’s lesson. You do learn something everyday as they say.

Thanks, Brendon! I try to make my site stand out by trying to talk about items when it comes billiards on this site. I was looking at some things that just related to billiards and found this. So, I thought I’d share it as it looks interesting to post here.
A pool cue is more than just a stick object that is used to strike a cue ball to go in a pocket of a billiards table. One might be curious as to know how it’s made, what kind of wood material is used, and the different names of each part of a cue. These are just a few that can peak a pool player’s interest. Hopefully, you and your friends have gained some knowledge of a a billiards cue after reading this post.

Interesting infographic! Didn’t realize there is so much detailed work in a pool cue! But I guess it would be quite important to get the feel right, minimize the vibrations and hopefully improve accuracy.
Do you think the materials that they use nowadays is pretty consistent across all pool cue’s, or would some move to more composite materials, or even plastics instead of wood?

Hi Sven! I know that I’ve dissected the pool cue to find the nitty gritty. Maybe someone who’s interested in shooting pool might be interested in knowing more about the billiards cue than just a stick that’s used in playing pool.
As to answer your question, the materials in a cue stick would definitely be on par with all cue brands, make and model when it comes to the wooden-made cues. As for the plastic made cues, I don’t think there are too many of those around. So, imho, I would feel that the material would not be consistent when it comes to plastic cues. I hope this helps.
