Golf Swing Tutorial

Hello everyone,

As promised from my previous post, I am going to go over a golf topic and here it is: the golf swing tutorial. For this post I am going to guide the best possible ways to show you how to swing the golf club correctly and efficiently.

I hope to turn you into a much better golfer whenever you play on a putting green or on a regular golf course.

I know that there are some of you that might already be professional golf players.

If you are, then there might be a thing or two that can learn to better your game.

For those of you that have little to no experience and are interested in the game of golf and needing to spice up the game with your golf swing, then you’re going to maybe want to read the rest of this post.

Step 1: Have the correct posture

This first step is crucial to becoming a better golf player. You’ll want to first angle your body by standing straight. The proper way to do this is to angle your body where you’re slightly bent over. This is shown in the picture on the left.

The key to setting up is to tilt toward the ball by using your hip joints, not your waist. Bending from this waist position the back to get rounded and it makes it difficult to make a good swing from this position.

For a better posture, try doing this: Stand straight in front of a mirror, at the front of your hips, tuck your fingertips into the joints. Next, tip your upper body forward as you push your hips and backside out behind you.

Keep your shoulder blades flat by relaxing them. After that, add a little flex to your knees. You should feel athletic and relaxed. Try to re-create this hip-hinged position when you play. You’ll look like a more like a professional golf player in doing this.

Step 2: The grip master

Here’s the second step of the road to becoming the best golfer that you can be: gripping the golf club. I know that the Golf Swingpicture to the right might be quite small to read. But, I’ll show it here if you need more clarification.

The hand grip on the left states: “The right-hand grip is primarily a finger grip.”On the left it states: “The right index finger and thumb form a ‘trigger’ position.”

It is advised to hold the handle pointing straight up at a 12 o’clock position and hold the grips of the handle and aim the head of the downward at a 6 o’clock position. If you are right-handed, it’s recommended to have your left gripping the handle over the right hand. The opposite holds true if you are left-handed: have your right hand over your left hand. Always make sure to keep your fists stacked on top of one another while gripping the club.

Step 3: It’s swinging time!

Okay, now we’ve come to get to the main point of the article. After we’ve established the positioning of the grip and posture, it’s now time to swing. Here’s what we do next:

  1. Hold your club outward to the side using your dominant hand, swinging it up to the 11 o’clock position. In delivering a more powerful strike, you might want to consider holding the club back until the head of your club aims downward from either the 2 or 3 o’clock position. The club head will need to aim directly parallel to the ground in this stance.
  2. Bring the club back down slowly until the club head is directly adjacent the side of your golf ball. Center it so that the broadest part of the club head hits the center-most part of the ball. Refer to step 2 and point #1 above to get a better understanding of this swing.
  3. Bring the club back at the 11 or 2 o’clock position by holding it in place. Keep your eye on the center of the ball, and if necessary, mark a spot on the center of the ball with a marker to help you see it.
  4. Swing the club downward with speed and force, following the points above as described. Your elbows should be bent slightly with the club in the upright position. As you swing, straighten your elbows to strike the ball with more efficiency.

In conclusion…

I hope to have educated you in becoming a more proficient golf player. I have included a video tutorial below that can aide you to show how it is done correctly. Please share if you like this article and if you have any questions, comments, or feedback, do add them in the comments section below, and I’ll answer them promptly.

Hi Alexey and thank you for commenting on my site. Yes, this post is designed to help you become not only a better golf swinger, but to swing and strike the ball correctly. The golf putter that I recommend is a universal one where you can use either with the left or right hand. You wouldn’t have to keep having to switch clubs that often. I hope this helps.

Great post! And from someone that has no idea how to swing a golf club I’ve learnt a great deal.

I always wondered why golfers stuck their ass out like that whenever they hit they ball from the tee, but it all makes sense to me now. I’m left wondering can someone with a lower back issue do this position correctly?

Hello Amber and thanks for commenting. I’m glad that you learned the proper way of swinging a golf club. Yes, anyone with a lower back issue can do this position as there is a golf putter that is universal for being played using either the left or right hand, and it is suitable for all people regardless of height, hand size or back problems. I hope this helps.

I have never played golf during my life (only minigolf). It’s mainly because I never have known anyone very closely who is playing golf and it feels like an expensive hobby.

I believe that your 3 steps are very useful to become a better at golf. I don’t know will I ever play golf in my life but if I play, I will come back to your tips and use them in my play.
